Safe Bet?
Network Associates International (NAI) acquired PGP in 1997 (US$ 35M) to sell most of the PGP product line in 2002 (US$ undisclosed) to startup PGP Corporation, today a very succesfull company. NAI was not able to sell encryption technology to enterprise customers and managed to destroy PGP's brandname by not further developing the technology. Yes, as they did with many other Vendors they acquired (see underneath). Yesterday McAfee acquired SafeBoot (US$ 350M), their second attempt to force their way into the corporate encryption market place. Let’s hope their new CEO knows what he’s doing this time…
